Cancer is almost like a dirty word these days. It pains many to even say the word out loud. There is no one that doesn’t know someone that has been affected by cancer. Most people even have close relatives or friends that have had or passed away from cancer. With this many people having cancer, it is important to know steps you can take to prevent cancer.
It is also important, of course, to know what cancer is. Cancer is defined as a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body – a malignant growth or tumor resulting from such a division of cells. Cancer cells can do this in any part of your body. Many times these cells cause lumps or knots on infected areas.
There are several different ways to prevent cancer and they all involve taking care of yourself.
- Stay away from smoke and other environmental dangers. These can range anywhere from cigarette smoke to coal dust and radiation.
- Don’t use tobacco. It’s expensive and bad for you, and has been proven, many times over, to cause cancer.
- Exercise at least 30 minutes a day. This will help you fight stress not only in your mind, but will also keep your body from having excess weight. Both of these factors can affect your chances to contract cancer.
- Eat Healthy. Get all the vitamins and minerals you need to help you stay healthy and fight diseases.
- Wear sunscreen. Make sure your sunscreen has UVB and UVA protection.
- Talk to your doctor and get immunization against Human papillomavirus (HPV) and Hepatitis B
- Get screened. Early detection is the best way to stop cancer in its tracks. The best way to beat cancer, of course, is to prevent it!
